Wolf's Legendairy
Ag-Grid Energy’s first dairy farm digester project in Texas is a partnership with Wolf’s Legendairy LLC, owned and operated by fourth-generation dairy farmers Adam and Hilary Wolf. More than 100 years ago, the Wolf family milked cows by hand in a small barn in Windthorst, TX. With a desire to continually improve, the family moved the farm to Scotland in north central Texas. The property includes the original barn that Adam’s grandfather Robert built in 1943. In fall 2020, a new tunnel-ventilated barn was built to maximize comfort for their 850 cows and realize efficiencies through many types of automation.

Project Partnership
Ag-Grid Energy partnered with Wolf’s Legendairy LLC to form the special-purpose company Wolf’s Ag-Grid LLC to own and operate an anaerobic digester and combined heat and power (CHP) system fueled by cow manure and various types of food waste.
Funding
This project will be funded through partner equity, NRCS EQIP grant, USDA REAP grant, and REAP loan guarantee.
Project Description
- FOOD WASTE – The digester will recycle more than 25,000 gallons of food waste per day.
- MANURE — The digester will recycle 30,000 gallons of manure per day.
- ENERGY — The digester’s 800 kW engine will generate 5.6 million kW hours of clean, renewable energy per year.
Farm Team
Adam Wolf is a fourth-generation farmer with a background in Dairy Science from Texas A&M University. Adam spent several years breeding cows in West Texas and working with large dairy farms prior to taking over his family’s farm.
About the Farm
Impact on the Community and the Environment
The local community will benefit from odor reduction and access to renewable electricity. Local food producers will have a trusted disposal site for recycling waste. Additionally, Wolf’s Ag-Grid plans to use this project as an educational example and tool for the community.
The renewable electricity from this project will help support 750 electric vehicles on the road and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from those vehicles.
